The Influence of Drama in a Foreign Language

We, as living creatures empowered with mental abilities and feelings, are able to find beauty in all things around us. Appreciation is a living action that derives from human to human due to its subjective nature. Drama is in the selected groups of the most valuable actions to contemplate and admire because it takes actions to the next level. The actions are not seen in their individuality yet they are taken as a whole, sequence, a unit. With this characteristic, Drama becomes, what it is a spectacle to our eyes full of fantasy, passion and freedom taking us to our highest level of expression.

Drama has been present in human history for many centuries but it was only ten years ago that was introduced in Education. And its implementation in teaching a foreign language has dated from a couple of years ago. But it is never late to start such creative an innovative project because it is crystal clear all the linguistic and psychological benefits Drama can provide to students empowering them with a relaxing mind and a behavior full of confidence; and with a more developed level of proficiency in reading, writing, listening and speaking.

For instance, I would love to work a play with a group of students very interested in putting their English into practice. It would be magnificent to work with starters but they are in that stage of comprehending the new language, for that reason I’d rather encourage students with an advanced level that would enable them to have a great performance in all Drama requirements. Trifles would be the chosen play in order to give the same importance to students no matter their genre or age. Moreover, Trifles would be the most suitable play because its scenography does not demand much effort to create, taking place its premiere in the main auditorium of the university.
